Owl Studies

Description

So I got a graphics tablet, woo.
With it I've been practicing how to draw Owls. I was going to draw birds but I was flicking through books and thought Owls may be more challenging.

I am not happy with the talons whatsoever :(, but it's the first time I've drawn them, and with a graphics tablet. Just practicing, trying to get better.

Reference picture from a book called Life In The Dark. I borrowed lots of books of birds and owls from the library... I'm so lame...

Any advice or feedback etc would be much appreciated.

That's a pretty start if you've just got a pen tablet ^^ I am unable to sketch directly on pc, always have to doodle on a paper with a pencil T_T ...

Also very good attempt at doing this owl study. The face looks very cute and realistic, eyes look symetric and reflect intelligence. The beak looks good too, well done with the highlight effects.

As for the leg, do not worry, birds aren't easy to draw u.u You can always research on books only about birds, specially if they have traditional illustrations/drawings more than just photos (though photo references are always the best). I think that the talon should be in perspective than rather stand horizontal, coming from one side of the leg.

But as said, do not worry, you'll get better with time :aww: Other references you can check for drawing owls are the covers of the books/movie itself of Legend of the Guardians: The owls of Ga'hoole (totally loved that movie). Hope I've helped somehow ^^; !
